UltiMaker Cura was the default slicer for years. It’s still functional, but the 3D printing world has moved on. Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, and PrusaSlicer are faster, more intuitive, and better maintained. If you’re still on Cura, here’s why people are switching and which alternative fits your workflow.

Let’s be honest about Cura’s problems in 2026:
Slow startup and UI lag. Cura’s interface is noticeably slower than alternatives, especially on older hardware. Opening the program takes 15-30 seconds. Switching between settings creates visible lag.
